Structure and musical and/or textual material within “La sed” (“The thirst”) illustrate and reflect on several concepts related to water. Each of the four sections of the piece is focused on one or more different themes, as detailed below. However, and just like water (which cannot be regenerated nor disappears yet is transformed and transported since the beginning of its existence) many of these concepts transcend their section and their presence is felt throughout
the entirety of the piece.

– Prologue: the rain and the thaw – the cycle of water, water as a solvent.
– A river – The paradox where shapes of water are identified with fixed, specific names, even when the reality of these shapes is not fixed nor specific, but a constant combination and recombination of a finite number of identical molecules.
A sea – The memory of water, the water crisis and the cycle of poverty.
Epilogue: the vapour and the clouds – Water and its memories of itself.
